Binge Culture turned five years old today. We take our date of birth to be the opening night of our first show, 1001 Things You MUST Do Before You Die, at Studio 77, Victoria University on 10 July 2008. We take everything leading up to that, meetings, rehearsals and arguments (though perhaps there were fewer in those days), as the gestation period, the pregnancy.
I feel proud to have continued producing work as a group for five years. Most bands don't last that long, nor do many relationships. Many theatre companies don't survive past their first Fringe show. There must be something that has us continuing to want to make work together. We set out to make 2013 The Year of Binge and so far we've made nine shows in six months (if you count each Scratch Night as a new show, and we do). Will we accelerate or take a breather for the second half of the year? We're not sure yet! Come and have a drink and cake with us at our Scratch Night Birthday Quiz next week. Until then, here's that famous microphone-in-condom-in-mouth moment (you know the one) from the very first show. Fi
